Registration for the 2025 edition opens 9pm AK time

The registration for the 2025 edition of the Alaska-Divide 2025 opens 9pm AK time, 7am on the 10th September CET.

It’s a 2 step registration:

1st you have to answer 16 questions about the route and your self.
2nd if successful, you register with the link we give you.

Andrew arrived in Deadhorse

Andrew arrived August 30th at 7:05pm at the finish of the Dalton Highway in Deadhorse, that marks the finish of the Alaska-Divide. Andrew covered the 1056 miles (1700km) in 12 days and 13 hours.

Reza arrived at the end of the Dalton Hwy

Reza arrived August 28, 2024 at 13h42 at the end of the Dalton Hw in Deadhorse that is the finish of the Alaska-Divide. That makes 10 days, 7 hours and 42 minutes for the 1056 mile (1700km) long route.

Congratulations, Reza, on this remarkable achievement.

Reza made it over the Atigun Pass

Reza messaged us 5 hours ago:

“I’m taking a lunch break at Galbreath Lake, and taking advantage of the cell phone reception. Atigun pass was amazing. So beautiful and the highlight of this race for me.
I was happy to get the Coldfoot yesterday because my lighter wasn’t working and I had to eat my dehydrated meals without heated water. At Coldfoot, I was able to buy a lighter and I’m now able to eat warm meals again. I’m also getting used to the idea of camping roadside in order to expedite my set up and downs.
Hoping to make it to dead horse tomorrow evening.”

Bernarda finished in Deadhorse, Prodhoe Bay

Bernarda finished this morning 26th of August 8:29 am at the end of the Dalton Highway in Deadhorse. She completed the 1056 miles (1700km) long course in 8 days, 2 hours and 29 minutes. This was Bernarda’s second attempt on the Alaska-Divide. Last year she had to take help and warm up in a car between Atigun Pass and Deadhorse. This year she started the race with big respect. Better equiped as last year, Bernarda managed this year even worse weather conditions.

Congratulations, Bernarda! Well done!

Bernarda had the luck to join the best weather from Coldfoot on with sunny sky. But cold below freezing point, till -5 degrees celsius (23 Fahrenheit).

Reza spends the night at the Arctic Circle

Reza made it to the Arctic Circle and stays the night at the Arctic Circle campground. Don’t imagine a campground with any kind of luxury. There is a basic toilette without water and a space you officially can place your tent. That’s it.

Reza sent us yesterday photos from the Elliott Highway on the way to the Yukon River camp. And he wrote us:

“I’m at Yukon River camp, spending the evening sorting out my brakes, and one of my tires. I’m also taking this opportunity to do a bit of research. On the way here, all the construction people were telling me to be watchful for bears and wolves because of recent attacks to motorists on bikes. I looked it up online and it looks like there was indeed a wolf who attacked a motorcyclist while waiting at a construction site on the Dalton. I’m gonna get some sleep tonight and hoping for a big day in terms of distance.
I’m really enjoying this race.”

Bernarda made it over the Atigun Pass

Bernarda waited a day until the weather changed with continuing her journey north. It was worth it. Bernarda is rewarded with blue skies and breathtaking landscapes. The piste soaked with water from days of rain is now frozen to ice. Minus 5 degrees celsius (23 Fahrenheit) the temperature. Not less challenging to move on with a bicycle but at least not wet anymore.

The Brooks Range is the most northern mountain range in Alaska. Over the Atigun Pass 4,739 feet (1,444 m), the highest all year open pass in Alaska, the route heads into Alaska’s Arctic region. The Atigun Pass is also where the Dalton Highway crosses the Continental Divide.

On the north side of the Atigun Pass is since last year a spot with mobile network signal. Bernarda took the chance and sent us some photos.

Current situation on the Dalton Highway

It’s raining on the Dalton Hwy and snowing at the Atigun Pass. Bernarda is waiting in Coldfoot for better weather. She reported this morning: “It was a disaster on the road. Totally mud road. I’m not going any further until it stops raining. I am in the camp in the room.”

Rodrigo is now 40km before Deadhorse. In Cantwell Rodrigo continued on the George Parks Highway to Fairbanks and skipped the Denali Highway. We have no information so far now, what the reason was. But missing such a big part of the route and go over to lead the race needed to disqualify him.

Along the route on paved stretches riders have to deal with lot of gravel and other things from trucks on the shoulder. At the begin of the Elliott Highway Andy got stopped by a cut in the rear tire. It took a while to find the reason of the blowout. At first no damage of the tire was visible and a new innertube was damaged after some 100m’s too. Walking back to the general store in Fox, disassembling the tire from the rim, cleaning everything, turning the tire inside out made the problem visible. A tire patch did not helped much and a ride on the oncoming remote 800km, mostly dirt roads and lots of potholes on the paved sections looked like not very wise in this weather. Since already 2 days Andy could not charge the USB devices by dynamo hub. So charging the rear lights would be already a challenge. And rear light is mandatory on the Elliott and Dalton Highway also at daytime.

The lady in the general store in Fox said: “I’m here since 46 years and we never had such a wet summer. It’s raining now since 8 weeks”.
